POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Yamaha Outboard Technician to join our marine service team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining Yamaha outboard motors and related marine systems. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues on Yamaha outboard engines.
- Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, lower unit service, water pumps, and tune-ups.
- Repair and replace engine components such as powerheads, gearcases, trim/tilt systems, and rigging.
- Use Yamaha diagnostic software and service manuals to troubleshoot issues accurately.
- Install and rig Yamaha outboard motors on new and existing boats.
- Test-run engines and perform on-water diagnostics when required.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and warranty documentation.
- Comply with Yamaha service standards, safety procedures, and shop policies.
- Communicate clearly with service advisors regarding repair needs and timelines.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and safe.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of marine or outboard engine repair experience (Yamaha preferred).
- Strong understanding of two-stroke and four-stroke outboard engines.
- Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a marine shop environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Yamaha Factory Training and Certifications (Level 1–3).
- Experience with Yamaha Command Link, Helm Master®, and digital controls.
- Familiarity with marine electronics, steering, and fuel systems.
- ABYC certification or similar marine technical training.
